EXPECTATIONS OF YOU

In your capacity as a Compliance Officer within Willis and reporting to the Head of Broking Operations, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with a significant number of colleagues and enhance your exposure to all aspects of the regulatory and compliance regime within our industry. You will have a leading role in our risk and compliance function in further establishing, embedding and enhancing our compliance standards.

On a daily basis, you will showcase your skills and knowledge by completing the following:

  • keeping up to date with regulatory developments;
  • advising management, and the Board, in a timely manner about FCA and regulatory/legal related issues.
  • identify the business risks ensuring all current and future regulatory requirements are adhered to with effective controls in place; record any findings and carry out corrective activity;
  • effectively review and audit the firm’s systems and controls to include: -

o   Training & Competency scheme - to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the business;

o   Financial promotions register and document control are signed-off, reviewed and maintained;

o   GDPR procedures - documents and registers are to be kept up to date;

o   Conflicts of Interest, Gifts & Hospitality, and Bribery & Corruption policies, procedures and registers are kept up to date;

o   Complaint handling, to include registering complaints, and root-cause analysis are carried out;

o   Senior Managers & Certification Regime documents are reviewed at least annually, and any changes of responsibility are mapped immediately and rolled out;

o   Undertake Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) reviews to ensure ongoing compliance;

o   Review of Sanctions MI;

  • supporting managers through conducting File/call Reviews and regarding technical queries and challenges; dealing with any issues escalated as a result of reviews carried out;
  • developing working practices to meet the requirements of the business for accuracy and efficiency;
  • ensure individual training/development plans are delivered, recorded and that all outstanding actions are completed within agreed timescales;
  • keeping up to date on technical knowledge and pass this on to key personnel across the business;
  • utilise the expertise in house by ensuring induction training is delivered, competency sign offs take place and ensuring effective management has taken place before the end of probation periods;
  • build good working relationships with Directors, Account Executives and Operations personnel across the business;
  • completing and submitting Changes in Control for acquisitions in order to obtain FCA Approval Notices;
  • process changes on the FCA Connect and submit returns by the Gabriel FCA system; 
  • preparing high quality and accurate reports and documents, ensuring they are compliant with FCA regulations;
  • managing personal workloads and meeting deadlines;
  • agency maintenance, interpretation and sign-off of TOBAs, and due diligence on providers;
  • Meetings with Compliance Consultants, as well as attendance at Insurer, BIBA, and others seminars/training sessions, in relation to regulatory and training areas, in order to maintain and grow own knowledge and to prepare for upcoming regulatory themes;
  • ensuring that Company procedures, our high client service standards and FCA compliance regulations are adhered to and maintained, acting always in the best interest of our clients.

  YOUR SKILLS & BEHAVIOURS

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a compliance role in the insurance sector
  • Experience in working in a team
  • Third level qualification
  • CII Certificate or equivalent
  • In-depth understanding of business needs with ability to assess risk      
  • Well-developed client relationship management and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders to develop strong relationships at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal, listening and written skills
  • Good attention to detail with ability to design and draft high-quality documents / outputs
  • Well-developed critical thinking and analytical abilities
  • Ability to self-organise and prioritise a varied personal workload
  • Drive and commitment to deliver to tight deadlines
  • High level of motivation and resilience with a proactive attitude

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • CII Advanced Diploma;
  • Central Bank of Ireland Consumer Protection Code & knowledge of their regulatory regime.
