- DO YOU HAVE DIRECTORS & OFFICERS LIABILITY INSURANCE?
Until recently D&O insurance has had a low take up in the UK. However it is becoming an important part of any company's insurance portfolio. Whilst it has traditionally been a cover purchased mainly by the large Plc's, it is as relevant for small businesses. In fact, because smaller compaies tend to have fewer resources to apply to corporate governance, it is probably more important that D&O cover is arranged.
Why does my company need D&O Insurance?
- claims can emanate from many sources including regulators, employees & liquidators
- claims can pose a threat to Directors' personal assets ie their homes & investments
- increasing volume of claims
- rising number of disqualified Directors
- increase in the number of Health & Safety investigations which can be costly
- difficulty in attracting new Directors if the company does not have D&O cover
- the new Companies Act will impose new responsibilities which may increase exposure on Directors
